Region VI Day (Michigan and
Canada) was held November 8,2008, at Grand Valley State University in
Allendale, Michigan and was a total success with a theme of "Give
Graciously of What is Mine." When we woke up Saturday morning it was
snowing/raining, but that didn't stop us from having a wonderful day.
The morning began with welcome speeches from our RCC, Andrea Henderson,
AAD, Denise Brenner, the Grand Valley chapter president, and the
Assistant Director of Greek Life at Grand Valley. We then continued on
to hear the State of the Area, Region, and Chapters presentations. What
a fabulous group of women and chapters we have in Michigan and Canada.
Our keynote speakers were five women who spoke to how Delta Zeta has
given to them, and more importantly, how they've given graciously of
what is theirs.
The afternoon continued with our Founder's Day ceremony, the Senior
Ceremony and workshops on a number of topics including alum life where
the keynote speakers answered questions from the collegians on what alum
life is like. After the workshops awards were presented to a number of
our alumnae chapter members and we announced Miss Region VI, Becky Klank
from Michigan Tech, and Outstanding New Member of the Year, Jenha Muir
from Wayne State University. We definitely have some incredibly
wonderful women in our region. The collegian's qualifications were out
of this world. I can't imagine managing everything these women are doing
and holding a high GPA as well.
The last item on our agenda was an auction where we raised over $600 for
the Delta Zeta Foundation by auctioning off donated items that were
Delta Zeta related.
On a personal note, Region Day provided me the opportunity to give back
to Delta Zeta, not only through my presentation as a keynote speaker,
but I made contact with one of the CCDs in our region and will hopefully
be able to help her chapter out this coming year, which is something
I've wanted to do for several years.
I am definitely looking forward to our next Region Day in November,
2009.
