2005 Region Day Gamma Sigma Chapter at Eastern Michigan University (Ypsilanti, MI) hosted the 2005 Region VI Day on November 19, 2005. The day began with a welcome from Region VI RCC Michelle (Bucky) Kramer, Great Lakes AAD Mella Davies, and EMU Greek Affairs advisor Noah Borton. After a “Meet Your Sisters” ice breaker allowed us to learn of our sisters’ biggest fashion faux pas, a representative from each collegiate chapter reported on the “State of the Chapter”. We enjoyed a wonderful lunch together before watching Karen Huckabone receive her Silver certificate and Jane Telder be honored with the Order of the Golden Rose. Sue Hagman announced that two Evelyn Adams Costello scholarships in the amount of $500 were being awarded, and alumnae Rita Bryndza, Angela McCommons, and Karen Huckabone assisted Gamma Sigma chapter with the Founder’s Day Ceremony. Door prizes were awarded throughout the day. The afternoon began with Debby Behringer of the Michigan Department of Health Early Hearing Detection and Hearing (EDHI) Program serving as the keynote speaker. Sisters then broke out into workshop sessions, where alumnae were treated to a presentation by Jane MacFarlane Welker and her Paws With a Cause assistance dog Ukon (see photo of Jane, Ukon, and Mella above). Alumnae hosted a Senior Workshop, and offered the attendees suggestions for how to become involved with Delta Zeta after graduation. We reconvened for the Senior Ceremony, hosted by the Omicron Nu and Wayne State Chapters. CCDs presented roses to all the seniors from their respective chapters. Bucky then distributed a number of collegiate awards, a full list of which can be found on the next page. Mella honored two deserving alumnae, Barbara Osiecki- Csircsu and Christyle Broadworth, with awards. See below for more information about these women and their accomplishments. Bucky recognized all of the Region VI CCDs, as well as Andrea Henderson, who was a big contributor to the day’s planning. In return, the CCDs recognized Bucky for all she does for the Region. The day concluded with the announcement of the Chinese auction winners. We look forward to the 2006 Region VI day at Ferris State University, and until then, our Delta Zeta monogrammed ice scrapers will come in handy during the cold winter months!
