Our final award of the day recognizes the outstanding work of one of our Area Alumnae Chapters.  This chapter has maintained a stable membership and has participated in philanthropy work through Hear Now, Sound Beginnings, the Hearing Loss Association, God's Kitchen and Paws for a Cause.  Over the previous year, the chapter donated $100 to the Delta Zeta Foundation and over $850 to local organizations.  Members also gave an amazing 2,485 service hours to the community.  The chapter’s most popular programming includes the welcome back potluck, Founders Day, the holiday event and the annual trip to the theatre.  In addition, the chapter collaborates with two local collegiate chapters, provides dinner to the women of Xi Psi prior to finals week and hosts an alumnae tea with Zeta Nu chapter annually.  The chapter also wrote notes to local sisters celebrating their 25^th, 50^th, 60^th and 75^th anniversaries of membership.  Their President, Becky Slusher-Thelen, explained that “The notes to our Alumnae add a personal touch to our sisters who have not been active in an alumnae group.  We get many notes back from the ladies sharing their DZ stories from long ago.”  The Grand Rapids Alumnae Chapter has certainly earned the distinction of Outstanding Alumnae Chapter for their outstanding achievement in the 2008-09 year.
