2010 Region V Day Outstanding Innovation in a Program or Event

Outstanding Innovation in a Program or Event – This is a special award that is being given in recognition of outstanding innovation in an alumnae program or event.  During the 2009-10 year, Dayton Alumnae members have been competing in a “Dayton Bingo” contest. The project, developed by philanthropy chair Nikki Harter-Hammes, encourages sisters to check off squares on a specially designed bingo card by supporting their local community through commerce and volunteerism. The Dayton area has been hard-hit by the economic crisis, losing several major employers and experiencing a 13.5% unemployment rate in Montgomery county. Local businesses have taken huge hits in sales, and local non-profits have seen their incomes slide while the demand for their services rises. By encouraging members to patronize locally owned businesses, restaurants, and shops, attend local festivals and events, and volunteer for or donate to local agencies, the chapter has worked hard to rebuild pride in the community and stimulate the local economy. In June 2010, a gift certificate for a local restaurant will be presented to the sister who has completed the most squares, and a drawing will be held for another gift certificate for all the sisters who have obtained at least one “bingo” on their card. Members have responded enthusiastically to the project, and have commented on the feeling of local pride it has developed.  For outstanding innovation in a program or event, congratulations to the Dayton Area Alumnae Chapter!
