2010 Region V Day - Lamplighter Award Winners

The Lamplighter Award, established at State Day, 1981, is designed to acknowledge one member in each alumnae chapter who has given that extra bit of spark, devotion, and loyalty to her chapter as an officer or member.

Columbus Alumnae Chapter – Kristen Haer (Theta) is a newer member of the chapter, but she has jumped in with both feet.  She has implemented some new programming ideas for the 2009-2010 year, such as a fun outing to the Schakolad Chocolate Factory where alumnae were able to make their own chocolates.  She also designed and distributed one of the chapter’s best newsletters in the fall of 2009, as well as the alumnae programs for today’s State Day event.  Her nominator states, “Her laugh is definitely missed when she is unable to make it to an event, but that doesn’t happen often!  She has a positive attitude that make people want to be around her.  I’m always looking forward to what she comes up with next!”

Dayton Area Alumnae Chapter – Nikki Harter-Hammes (Gamma Tau) has been involved with the Dayton Area Alumnae Chapter for over five years, and is currently serving as the Vice President and Philanthropy Chair.  In addition, she is a member of the National Philanthropy Committee and has supported activities in the area of Great Lakes membership.  As Vice President her role is to plan monthly meetings to appeal to a membership ranging in age from 20-80 years, as well as meetings that incorporate the Kappa Iota Chapter and the Greater Cincinnati/Northern KY Alumnae Chapter.  As philanthropy chair she continues to incorporate philanthropy activities into each monthly meeting. She saw the recent economic downturn as an opportunity to give back to the community, and created a Dayton BINGO game as a way for sisters to support the local community through commerce and volunteerism.  Her nominator states, “She has done an excellent job trying to think outside the box and get members together in new and different ways.  She enjoys Delta Zeta, and wants to make sure that all of our members feel the same.”

Delaware Area Alumnae Chapter – Kristen Caldwell (Alpha Rho) has been an active member of the Delaware Area Alumnae Chapter for the past three years.  During this time, she has planned two successful events at the Bare Bowl pottery painting studio, incorporating the active members of Alpha Rho chapter to strengthen our alumnae-collegian relations.  She further supports this bond by serving as Recruitment Advisor for the chapter, a position she has held for the past 4 ½ years.  As part of this position she has undertaken the crucial roles of guiding the Vice President of Membership, attending all formal recruitment parties, and assisting with recruitment workshops and events throughout the year.  Her nominator writes, “With Kristen’s help, Alpha Rho has had many successful recruitments and I’m sure there will be many more in the years to come.”

Youngstown Alumnae Chapter – Dalene Scott (Kappa Chi) is a recent alumna whose first actions after graduation were joining her local Alumnae Chapter and the Youngstown Area Alumnae Panhellenic Association.  She is enthusiastic about being an alumna and shows support by attending both alumnae events and collegiate programs such as Book Club, Greek Sing, and the 5K walk, as well as local Panhellenic Association events.  She serves as a Co-Chair for the Social Services Committee, a two-year position through which she is responsible for raising funds at every meeting for a local organization.  She helped organize an NPC Gift Basket Challenge and Charity Auction which raised $400.00 at the event.  She continues to give graciously and is supportive of DZ in several aspects.
