The 2005 Outstanding Ohio Alumna   

Helene Cushenan of the Cleveland Westside DZ Alumnae Chapter was nominated by both Cleveland Westside and Cleveland Eastside Alumnae Chapters.

Chapter: Beta Omega, New York University, from which Helene graduated with  her B.S. and M.A. 

Service to Delta Zeta 
Undergraduate:
Rush Chairman, Social Chairman and President.  Also, was President of Panhellenic on campus and President of Delion Council (Christian Sororities in NY area).  Helene received the Delta Zeta Graduate of the Year award when she graduated.  

Alumna:  Has held the offices of Lamp Editor, Secretary and Vice President and for the last 12 (twelve) years, has been President, with a co-President assisting her the last four.  While  President, Helene has done the newsletter and kept in contact with the rest of the  Chapter, both by e-mail, phone calls and mail.  

Professional Information:  Helene is on the Adjunct Faculty at Lorain County Community College teaching English Composition.  She is in partnership with her husband Ian in Real Estate working with the Realty One Bay Village office.  She also owns a vending business.  

Community Service:  In addition to the current co-presidency of Cleveland Westside DZ, she is an officer in AAUW and on the Cleveland Playhouse Women's Committee. She works for and with the League of Women Voters, Genesis House, St. Thomas Church and the Lorain County Chapter of Cleveland Speech and Hearing Center.  

Other Information:  Helene's enthusiasm and love of Delta Zeta has inspired our group.  She coordinates  a get together with the Alpha Gammas at Baldwin Wallace at least once a year through an Ice Cream Social, and participation in other activities as they request.  She maintains close contact with her NYU DZ sisters, attending an annual reunion.  She started in the theatre at 14, and attended NYU at age 16.  She is a member of a political "think tank" (read print journalism), and at one time, was a political speech writer.  Her future plans include work with groups concerning women and children's issues.  

Helene is remarkable in the enthusiasm and energy she has devoted to Delta Zeta, which is why not only the Cleveland Westside Alumnae, but also the Cleveland Eastside Alumnae, presented her for nomination to the Outstanding Ohio Delta Zeta Alumnae award.
