The 2007 Olive McCune Loyalty Award Winner

Olive McCune was a member of Alpha chapter in the early 1920s. She trained as a teacher and taught in the Cleveland area until she retired in the 1960s. She never married so her love for children was expressed in the elementary school classroom. I was a student in her 2nd grade classroom – and, because Olive and my mother were Delta Zeta sisters, she recruited me from 2nd grade onward!  Miss McCune was a charter member of the Cleveland Alumnae chapter. She promoted Delta Zeta enthusiastically wherever she went. Her loyalty and dedication to Delta Zeta was contagious. She attended many national conventions and was loved by a wide network of Delta Zeta sisters. She lived in my parents’ home after she retired until her death.

Carla Arnold Woodcock of the Cleveland Eastside Alumnae Chapter was chosen as the 2007 Olive McCune Loyalty Award Winner.  Congratulations Carla!

This award is given to an alumna member in Ohio who has made a significant contribution to her sorority through her loyalty, interest and devotion.

I don’t believe our award winner every left Ohio after she joined Gamma Kappa chapter at Kent State. She remained in close contact with her chapter, especially when she was a member of the House Corporation.

She has been a committee chairman or an officer in her alumnae chapter every year since the 70s. She has served as newsletter editor for 8 years and has published the annual membership directory for 24. Meetings are always eventful. Full of energy and ideas, she urges her sisters to support our local philanthropy, Panhellenic, the DZ Foundation and Delta Zeta Headquarters and Historic museum. Through her efforts the OH chapters raised $5,000 to furnish the Ohio Room . This is the beautiful hallway when you enter DZ National Headquarters. As a result of this project, she received the Mary Margaret Fore Individual Philanthropy Award at the 1998 convention. She also was awarded an Achoth bracelet at that convention.

She was the DZ delegate to Cleveland Panhellenic Association for 7 years. During that period she was Treasurer, Secretary and then President. In 2005 she was selected the Cleveland Panhellenic Association’s Woman of the Year.

Many other activities and organizations have benefited from her interest and enthusiasm. Her loyalty and dedication to our sorority have been proven again and again. I’m so proud to have her as a sister and fellow member of Cleveland Eastside Alumnae Chapter. Carla Arnold Woodcock
