The 2005 Lamplighters The Lamplighter Award, established at State Day, 1981, is designed to acknowledge the member in each chapter who has given that extra bit of spark, devotion, and loyalty to her alumnae chapter as an officer or member. It is a way of recognizing those hardworking alumnae members who may never hold an Area or National position, but are so invaluable to you in your endeavors as Delta Zeta alumnae. Congratulations to the 2005 Lamplighter Award recipients, as chosen by their respective Alumnae Chapters. Alumnae Chapter: Cleveland Eastside Pat is a wonderful woman who has given many years of service to Cleveland Eastside. She is the only member who has served twice as president, from 1972-1974 and 2002-2004. In recent months she has provided counsel to new officers and also joined a fundraising committee. She generously supports all our initiatives and consistently provides ideas and energy to help our group thrive. But what is really neat and special about Pat is her sense of humor. She is very funny, and she uses her gift to put everyone at ease and make our time together more enjoyable. We are thrilled to nominate her for the Lamplighter Award! Alumnae Chapter: Cleveland Westside Helene has been President of our chapter for 12 years, and the last 4 of which Melody Ross had held the co-presidency with her. These ladies have given tirelessly to promote our chapter, provide the newsletter, programs and coordination/contact with our Chapter member, our Gamma Alpha sisters at Baldwin Wallace, our philanthropy - the Lorain County Speech & Hearing Center, and Cleveland Eastside DZ alums. It is through their efforts, love of Delta Zeta, and enthusiasm that we continue as a Chapter and active Delta Zeta sisters. Alumnae Chapter: Columbus Traci has been actively involved with Delta Zeta on the alumnae level from the moment she graduated college. She was the inspiration behind the formal organization of the Alpha Rho Chapter Association, and has served for a number of years as the National New Member Education Committee Representative for Region V. She is currently in her first year as President of the Columbus Alumnae Chapter, just four years after serving as Collegiate President of Alpha Rho. She raised the standard for our annual philanthropy Winetasting event when she served as Philanthropy Chairman 2 years ago, and has taken the reigns of this year’s event even though she is serving as Chapter President. Traci is never hesitant to drop everything that she is doing to run to the Alpha Rho house to help with Initiation, support an alumnae/collegiate networking event, or just to offer support to one of her sisters. Her true devotion to Delta Zeta shows in the fact that she attended the 2004 National Convention in Florida in July without a worry in her mind about her upcoming wedding less than a month later. We are most enthusiastic about our nomination for the 2005 Lamplighter Award, Traci Kennedy-Brockfield. Alumnae Chapter: Kent Joan has been a member of our alumnae group for several years. She faithfully attends monthly meetings and has taken the huge "behind the scenes" job of creating and running a website for our chapter. We appreciate all of her hard work and dedication! Alumnae Chapter: Youngstown Upon receiving notice of this prestigious award, there was no doubt whom to nominate. Angela Barwick exemplifies the true meaning of the “Delta Zeta Girl” as listed by Betsy Bradley Leach in 1954 as read in the history of Delta Zeta. Angela assumed the position of Alumnae Treasurer in 2004 when a concern of disbandment arose. Quickly, Angela’s momentum with the Alumnae Chapter’s organization of the quarterly newsletter via email and the increased enrollment spread to working with the collegians. It wasn’t long after that, that the Campus advisor position would be bestowed upon Angela. During 2004, Angela organized an Alumnae garage sale for fundraising and philanthropic purposes, planned a senior collegiate dinner that had been missing for some time, and worked at a Geauga Lake Hotel cleaning rooms for a fundraising activity. Angela organized an Alumnae and Collegiate tailgate party for homecoming, assisted with the Collegians’ Turtle Tug, fall recruitment and Founder’s Day. Already in 2005, the Campus Delta Zetas have once again seen Angela at informal recruitment, the Alumnae book Club, and the Collegians have asked Angela to assist with the Greek Sing Choreography and it is only March. Truly, Angela Barwick is a most worthy candidate for this Lamplighter Award. Congratulations and thank you to all our winners! |
