The 2006 Lamplighters The Lamplighter Award, established at State Day, 1981, is designed to acknowledge the member in each chapter who has given that extra bit of spark, devotion, and loyalty to her alumnae chapter as an officer or member. It is a way of recognizing those hardworking alumnae members who may never hold an Area or National position, but are so invaluable to you in your endeavors as Delta Zeta alumnae. Congratulations to the 2006 Lamplighter Award recipients, as chosen by their respective Alumnae Chapters. Alumnae Chapter: Cleveland Eastside Joanne is currently holding two positions for the Cleveland Eastside Chapter, serving as secretary and Lamp editor. She also recently agreed to represent Delta Zeta in the Cleveland Panhellenic Association next year. She assists with the chapter newsletter and has hosted monthly meetings of the Cleveland Eastside Chapter in her home. Alumnae Chapter: Columbus Jessica has been actively involved with Delta Zeta on the alumnae level for quite some time. She has served as Panhellenic representative for the Columbus Alumnae Chapter, and was a big participant in the planning of the 2005 Panhellenic “Tour of Sorority Houses”. She enthusiastically took over managing the Chapter’s “Cosmo Club” upon the Vice-President’s sudden departure, and she will be serving as Vice-President for this upcoming year. She serves as a member of the Theta Chapter advisory board - advising the Vice-President of Programming, attending chapter meetings, and helping with recruitment. Jessica also assists the Great Lakes Area Team as the Ohio Development Chairman. In addition, she is extremely devoted to her own Delta chapter at DePauw University. Recently she commented that her “Initiation Anniversary” was coming up, and that she and her pledge class were beginning to exchange virtual emotional tidings via their chapter e-mail list. Jessica is truly devoted to Delta Zeta and should be seen as an inspiration to all collegians and alumnae. Alumnae Chapter: Dayton Becky exhibits her loyalty to Delta Zeta in her continued role as CCD of the Kappa Iota Chapter at Wright State University. She assists collegiate sisters in their transition to active alumnae, through a positive representation of alumnae involvement and service. For both collegians and alumnae, Becky exemplifies the lifetime commitment to sisterhood and service embodied by Delta Zeta Sorority. In addition, Becky exhibits her devotion to the Alumnae Chapter through extensive participation in meetings, philanthropy projects, and sisterhood events. She is always willing and eager to serve the Chapter as needed. Her continued outreach to collegians and young alumnae, as well as her positive promotion of alumnae activities, has been vital in the recruitment and retention of new members. Becky is a ‘spark’ within the Dayton Alumnae
Chapter. Her loyalty and devotion inspire other members to strive for continued
active involvement- a lifetime commitment to sisterhood and service. Her
positive and friendly attitude unifies young and older alumnae. She is one spark
of many that must exist in order to preserve the flame of our sisterhood.
Without her, the flame of Delta Zeta and the Dayton Alumnae Chapter would not be
as bright. Rebecca Holmes’ loyalty, devotion, and ‘spark’ are invaluable
to the Dayton Area Alumnae Chapter and Delta Zeta Sorority. Dayna has really stepped up to the plate for the
Kent Alumnae this year through her position of recruitment advisor for Gamma
Kappa chapter. She has spent a great deal of time and energy working and
planning with the collegiate women as a representative of the Kent Alumnae. She
has also dedicated much of her time and energy to her chapter relations position
for the Kent alumnae. The chapter has enjoyed working with her and has
appreciated her dedication and follow-through in all of her activities! Anna is overwhelmingly generous with her hours of volunteerism to both the Youngstown Alumnae Chapter and Kappa Chi. For two years, Anna has served on Kappa Chi’s advisory board, primarily focusing on recruitment and philanthropy, and more recently, fundraising. In addition to spending many tiresome hours baking for new member fundraisers, she has helped organize a coffee fundraiser with Dunkin’ Donuts. Anna has also directed many workshops with Kappa Chi Chapter, ranging from those related to Sound Beginnings, to recruitment with C.O.B's, and many others. As an advisor she has spent countless hours coordinating with the local Panhellenic Council in pursuing new recruitment styles and training new officers. She even attended the regional officer training workshop, substituting for a vacant office. Not only has Anna been a State Day presenter, but she also has been an integral committee member throughout the planning. Angela Messenger writes that “Anna Masi is truly a sister who helps to keep the lamp burning.” Congratulations and thank you to all our winners!
