The 2007 Lamplighters The Lamplighter Award, established at State Day, 1981, is designed to acknowledge the member in each chapter who has given that extra bit of spark, devotion, and loyalty to her alumnae chapter as an officer or member. It is a way of recognizing those hardworking alumnae members who may never hold an Area or National position, but are so invaluable to you in your endeavors as Delta Zeta alumnae. Congratulations to the 2008 Lamplighter Award recipients, as chosen by their respective Alumnae Chapters. Alumnae Chapter: Cleveland Eastside Jean is originally from a small town in upstate New York. Now you know why she is with New York Life Insurance. She is very dedicated to her work of helping others invest their monies responsibly. She watches over her clients investments like a mother hen. They all love her as do we. She has been a member of the Cleveland Eastside Alumnae Chapter for 10 years or more. She is presently our Panhellenic representative and she just shines in that position. She is really having fun with it...and she works hard at her job. We await her Panhel reports at all of our meetings.
Alumnae Chapter: Cleveland Westside/Berea Melody was co-president of our alumnae chapter for many years (8, I believe) and is currently President of Gamma Alpha House Corporation working closely and actively with the GAs and alumnae to renovate their suite and manage the House Corporation funds. She also maintains our Chapter directory and our on-line e-mail addresses so she can distribute our newsletters and other correspondence to our alumnae. Melody is a former GA and mother of GA legacies, so understands and works well with the active GA members, as well as being a vital member of our alumnae group.
Alumnae Chapter: Columbus Despite her busy life running a restaurant in Columbus, we are thrilled that Joyce has become more active within our chapter. She has recently taken the reigns of planning for both sisterhood and fundraising activities. Joyce has provided food from her restaurant for our Food Bank potluck, hosted us at the restaurant, and donated gift certificates to our annual silent auction. She participated on our storytelling session panel for Founder’s Day, and is always overly eager to volunteer to help wherever needed.
Alumnae Chapter: Delaware Area Being such a new alumnae chapter is difficult, but Anne has been the driving force behind keeping our chapter heading in the right direction. Although her official position is listed as “Treasurer”, she has taken on the role of planner, host, and motivator in all aspects of our chapter. Juggling so many hats is not easy, especially with a 1-year old at home demanding her attention. Anne has been a true model of sisterhood through her motivation to see that the Delaware Area chapter grows and succeeds, both in the areas of sisterhood and community involvement. She also recently took on the position of Development State Chairman for the Great Lakes Area, which reflects her overall passion for Delta Zeta as a whole.
Alumnae Chapter: Youngstown Area Suzanne sought out the Youngstown Area Alumnae chapter after returning to the area from California. Building and relying upon sisterhood in a new city is precisely why we have alumnae chapters. Suzanne recognized this in wanting to stay an active sister in our area. She surpassed our expectations as she reinvigorated the Kappa Chi sisters at Youngstown State University. The alumnae benefited from this collaboration as she has promoted the longevity of the Delta Zeta bonds and promoted alumnae interaction with the collegiate chapter. Even though we might not have shared our collegiate years with Suzanne, we are proud to share our alumnae years with such a wonderful sister. Congratulations and thank you to all our winners!
