Complete Collegiate Chapter reports

The Epsilon Sigma chapter of Delta Zeta has been busy this fall! We started the semester off right by achieving quota for the 19th consecutive year and exceeding total for the first time via the Formal Recruitment process. We are looking forward to initiating all 12 of our new members! We have been involved both on and off campus by participating in homecoming events, supporting breast cancer research, holding events for Alcohol Awareness Week, participating in the Detroit Free Press Marathon, and demonstrating how "Pink goes Green" by planting plants and doing things to improve the environment in the metro Detroit area.

Our chapter is currently preparing for our 3rd annual Putt Putt fundraiser in late November where the funds raised will be donated to the Painted Turtle Camp. In the mix of all of the campus activities, we held a successful parents night where all of the sisters families could come and learn more about Delta Zeta along with a Founders Day tea and dessert event where some alumnae came to join our festivities. Most recently some of our actives attended Region Day where we were awarded a plaque for academic excellence for the 3rd year in a row with the top GPA in the region. Additionally we received a plaque for philanthropic excellence plus an honorable mention for recruitment. The outstanding new member of Region 6 is Jenha Muir, a December 2007 initiate from Epsilon Sigma. Additionally, two women from our chapter were awarded the Evelyn Adams Costello Scholarship -- DeAnna Bartold and Emily Powell. Lastly, we had two women receive scholarships from the Delta Zeta Foundation -- Danya Alawie and DeAnna Bartold.  We are getting ready for the winter semester and looking forward to our winter formal occurring in early December!

Gamma Alpha Chapter at Baldwin-Wallace College

Recruitment ran very smoothly this year and we welcomed twenty wonderful new girls that were just recently initiated on November 7th. With these twenty girls, we reached quota and have been having a great semester.  We have been having bonding events with our new girls, such as going to dinner together, watching movies in our chapter room, and going to Cedar Point among other things. Also, during the past month we have been preparing for the Greek Week Lip Sync competition. The new girls have gotten very involved and we have all been working together to make this performance outstanding. Girls that are not involved in the dance portion of the competition are helping to raise money for Greek Week, making posters to support other sororities and fraternities on campus, or collecting props and costumes for the performance.

During October, we carved pumpkins with a fraternity on campus and donated those pumpkins to the Berea Children’s Home for Halloween. Also, we have two teams of girls participating in the GAMMA (Greeks Advocating Mature Management of Alcohol) Four Square tournament taking place on November 19th. Each team will raise at least $200 to be donated to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. We have also been preparing for our Delta Zeta Rummage Sale which is open to both students as well as members of the community and will take place on November  16th. The money raised in this rummage sale will benefit the Paul Newman Painted Turtle Camps.

On October 26th, the Sunday after Founder’s Day, we invited our family members and alumnae to join us for lunch. We also enjoyed listening to speakers and learning more about Gallaudet University and the art of deaf dancing. We raised over $500 for our philanthropy through a gift basket raffle during lunch. After lunch, we invited alumnae and family back to see our chapter room and spend time with our sisters. We invited alumnae back again on November 9th for our annual tree trimming. We spent the afternoon socializing over cookies and punch while decorating a Christmas tree to be auctioned off.

The Theta Psi chapter of Delta Zeta first and foremost wants to recognize all 22 of their new members!  Recruitment was very successful for the sisters of Delta Zeta this year thanks to the Vice President of Membership, Kayla Faudree, as well as the hard work and dedication of each sister.  Theme nights included, Greek Goddess, DZ Loves New York, and Garden Party.  In showing the new members some of the social aspects of Greek life, the sisters had their annual “DZ Hayride” date party Friday, October 17th and enjoyed their semi-formal on Saturday, Novermber 15th.  Two of the sisters also had the honor of making it on to homecoming court.  These women were Jessica Bailey and Mary Weidig.

Delta Zeta has gotten excited about some past and upcoming philanthropic events.   This summer, one of the sisters, Libby Ehlke, had the opportunity to attend the Painted Turtle Camp in California and had an amazing time! She was a camp counselor for girls who suffer from dwarfism.  She gave a presentation at a chapter meeting about her experience which inspired other sisters to look into the opportunity.

Delta Zeta’s annual Trick-or-Treat-Help-Someone-Eat took place during the week of October 21st-October 26th.  The sisters passed out flyers and stood outside of Wallmart and Buellers on October 24th and 25th to notify the community of Ashland of the event.  The actual collection of cans took place on Sunday, October 26th where the sisters collected a total of 4,092 cans to be donated to the Salvation Army in Ashland.  This topped the number of cans collected last year which was very exciting!

The sisters have a few other projects going on as well.  During recruitment, they created pencil boxes for Dale Roy School here in Ashland. The sisters will also have the opportunity to serve at The Breakfast Center which serves breakfast to the needy of Ashland at a local church.

Besides philanthropy events, the chapter worked hard to put on their second annual fundraising event, Singled Out, where all of the profits benefitted Delta Zeta’s philanthropy.  The event mimicked MTVs dating show from the nineties where a selected guest has the chance to win a date from a group of people based on compatibility.  The event was successful and the sisters were able to raise $240 for the Delta Zeta Foundation!
