2006 Ohio State Day When you wish upon a star, Delta Zeta is never far! On April 1, 2006, Kappa Chi Chapter at Youngstown State University hosted one of the best Ohio DZ State Days in recent memory. The day began with a welcome from some of the individuals who worked so hard to put the day together - Sarah Gavalier, Kappa Chi State Day Chair, Kim Maust, Kappa Chi President, Pam Asher, Region V RCC, and Mella Davies, Great Lakes AAD. Greg Gulas, YSU Student Activities Director, welcomed us to campus, and then we dispersed to our workshop sessions. This year’s workshops were especially appealing to both the collegians and alumnae in attendance and included sessions ranging from “Reviewing Delta Zeta National Structure” and “Working with your Greek Affairs Officer” to “Wedding Planning”, “Self-defense”, and “Helping you look your DZ Best: Fashion and Accessories”. Kappa Chi alumnae Dr. Christine Alexander and Lisa Laird even led a Jeopardy style workshop entitled “Don’t Put Your Health in Jeopardy: A Women’s Health Workshop.” We reconvened for lunch and many attendees had a chance to browse the wide array of DZ DeZigns merchandise or hear their name called as a winner in the Chinese auction. After lunch we settled in for the Magic and Illusions of John Steven Bloom, who taught us that “Sisterhood Creates Magic”. John used a variety of Delta Zeta symbols to convey the message that “Our dreams are an illusion, but we will make them reality”. Mella Davies then began the alumnae awards ceremony by announcing the 2006 Lamplighters, in addition to the recipients of the Helen Reimund Love Philanthropy, Joan Dondrea Lowry Philanthropy, and Olive McCune Loyalty Awards. The Youngstown Alumnae Chapter had a strong showing of alumnae in attendance and earned the Traveling Gavel Award. More information about all alumnae and collegiate award winners can be found below. After Pam Asher recognized the Region V CCDs and announced the 2006 collegiate award winners, we finished the day with a Senior Ceremony hosted by the alumnae of the Youngstown Alumnae Chapter. Kappa Iota Chapter at Wright State University is looking forward to next year, when they will host State Day on April 21, 2007.
