2008 State Day - Delta Zeta Rocks! Baldwin-Wallace College was the site of the 64th annual Region V State Day on April 5, 2008. Gamma Alpha Chapter and the Cleveland Westside-Berea Alumnae Chapter hosted over 400 collegians and alumnae to the theme “Delta Zeta Rocks!“ Alumnae gathered at Max & Erma’s on Friday evening to get the weekend started. On Saturday morning, we were welcomed by Gamma Alpha State Day Chair Tiffany Allison, Region V Regional Collegiate Coordinator Pam Asher, BWC Director of Greek Life Marc West, BWC Vice President of Student Affairs Trina Dobberstein and Great Lakes Area Alumnae Director Mella Davies. After the welcome, many alumnae served as workshop facilitators while others attended sessions such as Creative Stamping, Women’s Health and Nutrition, Facebook Basics, Delta Zeta’s National Museum and New Member Education Program - An Overview for Alumnae. A number of alumnae were able to spend some time with soon-to-be-graduates at the Senior workshop, and both groups benefited from their time together. The collegiate and alumnae spirit award winners were announced during a buffet style lunch accompanied by a fabulous assortment of desserts. Alumnae State Day Chairman Betty Ann Spero presented the Dayton Alumnae Chapter with the award for traveling the farthest, and Cindy Fitzpatrick was named Ms. DZ. After lunch we heard from Keynote speaker Mandi Wise, Chapter Services Director. Mandi discussed the book “The Radical Leap” by Steve Farber, informing us how we can be effective leaders by inspiring Love, cultivating Energy, generating Audacity and providing Proof. AAD Mella Davies then honored five of our alumnae as Golden Roses, and Past National President Norma Andrisek inducted Alice Evanick Stahl into the Order of the Pearl. The alumnae awards ceremony was next - the 2008 Lamplighters, Helen Reimund Love Philanthropy, Joan Dondrea Lowry Philanthropy, and Olive McCune Loyalty Award winners were announced by Mella and Awards Chairman Liz Wood. The Traveling Gavel was awarded to the Kent Alumnae Chapter for having over 50% of their members in attendance for the day. The Dayton Area Alumnae Chapter was announced as the Outstanding Alumnae Chapter award winner for the second year in a row. More information about all alumnae and collegiate award winners can be found on the following page. After Pam Asher recognized the Region V CCDs and announced the 2008 collegiate award winners, we finished the day with a Senior Ceremony and Friendship Circle led by the alumnae chapter Presidents in attendance. The Cleveland Westside-Berea and Cleveland Eastside Alumnae chapters distributed roses and “Welcome to Alumnae Status” notes to the seniors. Alpha Rho Chapter at Ohio Wesleyan University will serve as State Day host in 2009. Awards distributed at the 2008 Ohio State Day at Baldwin-Wallace College
